We got wonderful news today! Richard and Aandishah were both honored with annual awards at Lamont. In his announcement, interim director Steve Goldstein described the accomplishments as follows.
Today Richard Seager, Palisades Geophysical Institute Lamont Research Professor, received the 21st Scientific Excellence in Mentoring Award. This award honors outstanding members of our scientific staff who go above and beyond to support, guide, and empower others.
Richard’s nominators included 7 graduate students. Here is an excerpt from the nomination: “Across the board, [Richard] has made a lasting impact on each of us, not just as a brilliant scientist, but also as a mentor who deeply cares about the people he works with. It didn’t take long to realize how deeply invested he is in his students’ growth and success. He fosters an environment where curiosity is encouraged, high standards are met with support, and everyone is challenged to become a better scientist.”
Also today, Aandishah Samara, a graduate student in OCP, received the 1st Community Impact Award from our Office of Academic and Research Community Success. The award is for individuals, who through their dedication and efforts, help create lasting change, strengthen community connections, and enhance the accessibility of our mission here.
One of Aandishah's nominators wrote "“From the moment she stepped foot on the Lamont campus, Aandishah has dedicated herself to making it better for those who have been historically excluded from geoscience and higher education institutions.”
Congratulations Richard and Aandishah on very well deserved recognition!
